ECUST International students discover China's rich heritage
In December 2024, nearly 100 international students from 31 countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, participated in a cultural trip to Henan Province. Organized by the College of International Education, the "Exploring China: A Cultural Journey through the Heart of China" event aimed to deepen students' understanding of China’s history and culture.
Henan, known as the birthplace of Chinese civilization, is home to many ancient capitals and cultural treasures. With over 5,000 years of history, the province offers a unique opportunity to explore China’s rich heritage.

Before the trip, the students attended a special seminar on the culture of this region, where they learned about topics like Chinese calligraphy, ancient capitals, martial arts, and agricultural traditions, preparing them for the exciting journey ahead.
Highlights of the trip included visits to:

Shaolin Temple
The birthplace of Chinese Kung Fu, where students tried martial arts, watched impressive performances by Shaolin monks, and learned about the temple’s cultural significance.

Longmen Grottoes
A UNESCO World Heritage site, where students explored the history of the grottoes, admired the beautiful scenery of Luoyang and took photos in traditional Chinese clothing.

White Horse Temple
The first Buddhist temple in China, where students admired the stunning architecture and discussed the differences between Chinese and international Buddhist temples.

The students also had the chance to experience China’s high-speed rail system, which impressed them with its efficiency and modern design. Laura from Germany Marveled, “Hongqiao Railway Station is enormous! It felt more like an airport than a train station.”
This trip is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to help international students explore China’s culture and innovations. The College of International Education will keep creating fun and exciting opportunities for students to experience China’s rich heritage and share it with the world!
