Founded in 1952, ECUST is a leading Chinese university renowned for its strengths in chemical engineering and technology. Designated as a national key university in 1960, it has been selected for China's "Double First-Class" initiative with three disciplines - Chemistry, Materials Science, and Chemical Engineering - ranked among the world's top academic programs.


The university's three Shanghai campuses host over 31,000 students, including 15,000 graduate students. ECUST maintains strong international connections, partnering with 170+ global institutions and offering programs with international accreditation including ABET and AACSB.


Eleven ECUST disciplines rank in the global top 1% by ESI, with three in the top 0.1%. The university drives innovation through 11 national research bases and 41 provincial laboratories, holding 3,000+ patents that have generated significant social and economic impact.

College of International Education (CIE)
Founded in 2006, College of International Education, located on the main campus in Xuhui district, is a bridge and bond between international students and the university. It is responsible for recruitment, enrollment, academic affairs coordination and service of all international students coming to ECUST.

International students can apply for a bachelor, master or doctoral degree program or visiting program offered by ECUST, as well as long-term or short-term Chinese language and culture program and various customized programs.


Given the student-orientated management policies, CIE always bears the interests of the students in mind and is committed to build up an efficient and effective learning platform and comfortable living environment for all the international students at ECUST.
